New Bag.

I was trying something new, well new for  me, a journal size piece of work to resemble a face. I tried to work in the same way as Pamela Allen, just cut and lay it down and see what comes out. So here it is bad hair day bag 1, it was fun to make but I had a few problems on the way.One such problem is covered by a little green heart! I also tried rounded corners but I'm not keen on this look so I will not do that on another bag. It was all free motion quilted and is lined with cotton. What do you think???

Hello2011 Goodby 2010.

Well I have been gathering information re-Etsy and setting up a shop and all it entails and so far I've not been scared silly. I asked questions and several people came back with good input. One crafter from Fife gave me lots of good information and also pointed me to MacEtsy which was really good because I could look at sights from Scotland and get a good idea of what was on sale from here, she also came up with a good name  for my shop.(more on that later)Anyway things are progessing and all I need to do now is the work to have a "stock" ready. This is holiday time for me so thats why I have given this title this post. Its been a quick year with LOTS of changes but I am looking forward to 2011 and hope its a vintage year for me.
See you in 2011

Snow, Wind and Rain

We have had lots of snow for this area and while it has caused some problems we have been o.k. compared with others parts of Scotland. We now have wind and rain so the remaining snow will soon be gone. This has been perfect sewing weather however I still have to finnish my entry for Loch Lommond Show, (one of my entries) the one on this blog, I'm working on at least one other entry but as my camera need its battery charged and I have no idea here the charger is you will have to wait for a photo. As you can see I now have a Bag Gallery, this shows only a few of the bags I have made but I will add more photos later.I am also thinking of having an Etsy shop where I can sell my work to a wider shopping market, but again thats in the pipeline.Well if I am going to do all that then I need to work so thats what I'm doing now. hank you for your visit call again soon.

Close ups, but not their best side!!

Hello Again, Judy thank you for looking and as you can see I took note of your comment about close ups however as you can also see my skill level in photography is nil. I have read articles in mags. about the best thing to do, how to do it, and what gives the best results and I did try to follow some of the guidelines BUT as you can see I still have the L plates on.Also I really do'nt know how to use my little camera, can  find the book, so please try to see what I've done. Perhaps it would be better to explain.

A few years ago I attended a class with Ricky Timms and really enjooyed it, free cutting, I think it was his cave man class anyway after the class I tried some ideas of my own and my Wibbly Wobbly Nine Patch class was born.I have taught this class often its very popular as there are no seem allowance rules and you re-size after you have made all of your blocks. Moving on from that I then decided to use this method for backgrounds (there is another quilt on an older post using this) and played with sheer fabrics to see how they would work. This has turned into one of my favourite things to do, I free cut curved strips, weave them into the required size on  wadding/batting and then stitch them down. They can be made in any size, are quick and easy and a great way to use up not so good looking  fabric as you only see a small area at a tiime. I also have some pieces mounted and framed but they are under glass and the problems I would have to photograpg them would be !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So be kind when you look and I will try to improve the photography. Its now snowing quite heavily so a perfect day to sew. Please visit again and if you can please leave a comment I enjoy hearing what folks think of my work as I hope to sell some of it feed back is laway welcome.

More Work to Look at.

We moved to another part of Scoltand in May 2010 but did not live in our new home until  August 2010 because we were doing renevations and adding rooms, one of which became my studio. As you can immagine after months of having my "old" studio paced away its taken me some time to unpack and these two pieces are the latest finds. The red and green curved piece in the centre  is made from a coloured sheer with narrow red satin stitch, then appiqued to a black velvet background and the mount is red. (I forgot to rotate this photo sorry) The over all sizes are,         14and three quaret inches long  by  11 and one quarter inches wide. Price is £20 unframed,  P&P extra.

This piece is worked in green and blue sheer fabrics with narrow sattin stitch in blue, it was then appliqued onto a calico background and has a dark blue mount. This piece measures 14 and a five eiths inches long and 11 and one quaret inches wide, this piece is also £20 unframed and P.&P. are extra.
As I unpack more of my studio I hope to add to the work for sale, in the mean time thank you for looking and I hope you enjoyed your visit and will come again.

Latest Work

These two photos are of a piece I am working on right now, the top photo is a close up of the block/s I am using. It is made up of four red squares and each square has two half square triangels. The cantre looks llike a windmill block with a llittle twist.

This is the piece with a narrow black border which I hope gives it a little drama without taking anything away from the centre. This is quite a heavy quilt because of the ammount of fabric in each block, another reason for a narrow border. What do you think of this piece??? all comments will be read and no offence taken. I would also like to hear how you would quilt this piece.I have quilted my sample piece/inspiration that this quilt was made from but as its smaller than this and a little different again your help would be good. I look forward to hearing your ideas and thoughts.
